Two of my favorite friends recently visited Bal Harbor and the Acadia National Park in Maine for the first time. In their working lives, they both have to plan and manage their time and schedules precisely as many of us do. On this trip, they chose to have no schedule, nowhere to be. Out exploring one day, they randomly stopped at The Jordan Pond House Restaurant. They were given a table on the terrace overlooking Jordan Pond and Penobscot Mountain. The combination of the beautiful day, view, food and conversation made for a magical afternoon.
They asked me to do a painting from a composite of photographs they took. I said of course I would be honored to do so, reminding them that the piece would be similar yet different from what they remember. I wasn't there to smell the flowers, feel the breeze or see the sun on the water. I can only use my imagination and painting style to interpret.
Do you have those "snapshot paintings" in your memory of a day or stage in your life that you can recall to lift you up, calm you down or just re-live a blissful time?
